What is Vitals Salvestrol® Platinum?

The discoverers of salvestrols made an interesting finding: the content of salvestrols in fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs and processed foods varies enormously. Pesticides such as fungicides have drastically reduced the levels of salvestrols in common fruits and vegetables. Logical, after all, there is no longer any need for the plant to protect itself by producing phytoalexins. In addition, plant selection and breeding in the last fifty to sixty years have resulted in much less cultivation of plant varieties that are naturally rich in the bitter salvestrols (and are therefore less dependent on pesticides). People also like to choose new varieties of fruits and vegetables that are uniform in size, color and shape, leaving older varieties and the less beautiful ones, those richer in Salvestrols are left.

Finally, food manufacturers remove salvestrols from (refined) foods such as fruit juices and olive oil for the sake of taste, color and clarity. The taste becomes sweeter without the need to add sugar. Refined foods generally contain little or no salvestrols. The British research group that discovered salvestrols has come to the conclusion that today's diet contains 80 to 90% less salvestrols compared to fifty to a hundred years ago. The Salvestrol point system is designed to indicate the amount of Salvestrols in supplements and food. Different salvestrols have different potencies that are not directly related to the number of milligrams. The scale of the points system is based on a calculation of the amount of Salvestrols that was present in a historical diet from more than 100 years ago. That amount is equated to 100 points.
